Troubleshooting

If you cannot cannot connect to a remote host

Try the following

  1. Set your system date/time to correct value.

  2. Disable anti-virus software.

  3. Disable firewall software.

  4. Disable Windows Defender.

  5. Turn on the following services on local and remote host

            Remote Access Connection Manager

            Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

            Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator

            Security Accounts Manager

            Server

  6. If not using domain username, make sure both local and remote hosts have the same username with the same password and both are local administrators of their respective machines.

  7. Make a change to Local Security Policy and apply changes (this seems to restart any unstarted services)

Example: Some customers have reported the following fix

Open ControlPanel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy

The Local Security Settings dialog should pop up.

Open Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Network Security: LAN Manager authentication Level

Set value to "Send LM - and NLTM - use NTLM v2 security if negotiated".

Press Apply button to restart Local Policy.
