Migrating and modifying SIDs

There are many cases which require changing SIDs on a machine.

  1. You have cloned a machine via a ghosted image and you wish to update the ghosted image SID everywhere it is referenced on the cloned machine.

  2. You have deleted a domain user/group and you wish to update all references to that object on a filesystem and/or registry.

  3. You wish to "rename" a local user/group and have all rights of an existing SID.

In either case,

To get a list of SIDs local to any machine, use the SID Report Screen.

To search for where a SID is used, or for dangling SIDs, use the SID Search Screen.

To update any SID references on a machine use the   SID Search/Replace Screen.
